Comment on your teachers blog

I have commented on one of the posts "Robots" - Automated Book Delivery System & Virtual Browse.-

My comments read:

It's a great system and gives flexibility to the user and saves time as well. Also saves space the library can make use of for other activities and items.  Currently the automated processes in libraries include issuing books to borrowers, retrieving them and returning the items to the relevant shelves at the end of the loan period. There are many other processes within a library that could use the benefit of technology. It's certain that many libraries will no doubt be fully automated in the near future.

Commenting on other blogs

I have read and commented on Harvey blog post -  Social Networking posted on Monday 18, November 2013.

My comment reads: Yes I agree. It has become a necessity for libraries to participate in social networking. It helps them for knowledge sharing, information distribution, communication and knowledge gathering. And it's important that the staff are well updated on these new technologies.

and also on Harvey's blog post -  Nancy Pearl posted on Monday 18, November 2013.

Since no one has accepted my invitation yet, I also commented on Gary's blog post - Down with the kids posted on Monday October 14, 2013.

My comments read: I'm not yet a parent myself but looking forward to it. I think being a geriatric mother can be quite challenging. Sometimes it scares me to think about it. Cause I feel I have been doing ok so far and then your life changes completely when you become a parent after all those years. You wont be doing much for yourself. It will be all about your kid. But in a way it's nice.

Recommendations to Liverpool Libary

Use of Web 2.0 technologies in Liverpool Library - Recommendations

Liverpool library seems to have limited 2.0 technologies. They should have more web 2.0 technologies to encourage user participation, let the users tailor services to their needs, use the information they have and know to add value, make content available for sharing, commenting, reviewing, tagging to name a few.

The library should engage more with it's users online. There's very limited information on their website. I would highly recommend them to have a more informative website and easy navigation. In today's digital environment, the first point of contact and information is the website. I recommend Liverpool Library to have a website such as the Hurstville Public Library.

http://lmg.hurstville.nsw.gov.au/Local-Studies.html

Children and Families:

The Liverpool library should improve the use of social media tools such as YouTube to promote library activities, kids programs. This will no doubt provide more user participation and attraction for more users to walk in to the library. The Hurstville library has YouTube clips on their website of the recent events they have had. Liverpool library should do something similar.

http://lmg.hurstville.nsw.gov.au/youth-@.html

The library has the option of allowing users to download Audio books. But the patrons need to go to the Liverpool library website to do that. I would recommend what Wayne State Library is doing through the app Browzine. BrowZine is used to easily find, read, and monitor thousands of scholarly journals available from their library, or through Open Access publishers, covering all disciplines. Library users can find, read and monitor thousands of scholarly journals directly from their iPads with the BrowZine app. Wayne State University allows it's users to download the BrowZine app and log in using their access ID and password. From there, the users can start browsing.

Another recommendation would be the use of podcast. Users can listen to the libraries podcast as streaming media. The library should consider having different podcasts such as events, collections, media etc. National Library of Australia has many podcasts for their users to check updates etc.

E.g.
http://www.nla.gov.au/podcasts/

Another recommendation is the NYPLs' Inter-library Services provides access to materials held at libraries outside the NYPL system. If you have a current library card, you may submit and manage your Inter-library Loan requests online. This would be a good recommendation for Liverpool Library so that the patrons can manage their own Inter-library loan requests online.

Youth:

Surviving School for the young which includes subject sessions, tertiary preparation program,  further education. Gaming sessions for the youth.

Youth services blogs.

Youth Services recommends.

I highly recommend the visit NYPL on VoiceThread. It's a new way to have a young group of people to have a conversation about anything. This encourages a richer more engaging discussion because u can draw on the image.VoiceThread is used by everyone from elementary students to top-ranked universities to corporate executives. The power of peer feedback and review is available to all participants in a VoiceThread conversation. It's a discussion which stimulates a live presence.

http://nypl.voicethread.com/?#q

Adults:

Book groups for Adult readers. - Moreland's library service has several book groups for adults. Book group members can suggest books to be discussed and the library will provide these books whenever possible.

http://www.moreland.vic.gov.au/moreland-libraries/talks-activities/clubs/book-groups-for-adult-readers.html

Reference, Information:
Have an online reference collection. These resources simultaneously search several reference sources (encyclopedias, dictionaries, and more), providing quick access to reliable facts.

Evaluation of Liverpool Library

The Liverpool Library uses the following web 2.0 technologies.

The Liverpool Public Library has the above web 2.0 technologies
that assist it's users to connect with the library. The library continues to
use these technologies for customer interaction and content creation.
But i feel the library is not using enough web 2.0 technologies. It could

libraries patrons being more traditional.
